About You

As a Children Services Team Leader, you will: 

  • Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders in the effective delivery of support services to Westhaven Children and Young People (CYP) with a range of complex needs

  • Partner with children and young people (CYP) diagnosed with a disability and/or complex behaviour needs to achieve their goals and to live life the way they choose

  • Be responsible for ensuring the children and young people you support are receiving a high level of quality care with dignity and respect from a team of support workers you will lead, mentor and supervise

You will have:

  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities, confidence and emotional intelligence that enable you to resolve complex situations

  • The ability to interact positively at all levels, including demonstrated capacity to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and performance manage a team within a dynamic and fast paced environment

  • Effective conflict resolution skills, negotiation, mediation and decision-making skills paired with exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to confidently apply de-escalation strategies in high conflict situations

  • Demonstrated ability to build a cohesive team with clarity around goals and accountabilities

  • A leadership style that fosters innovative, creative and collaborative practices and the ability to motivate others

  • Willingness to take a person-centred approach to working with vulnerable persons to ensure that the goals and aspirations of the person with disability are understood

  • Celebrate and nurture an inclusive, diverse and supportive workplace 

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Disability Services, Community Services, Children’s Services or similar field; or identify as Aboriginal and be willing to work towards a relevant qualification

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, behaviours of concern and mental health concerns

  • Experience working with people with a disability, highly regarded

  • Experience working with children or youth in a care or education setting, highly regarded

Compliance requirements

  • Current NSW Driver’s licence 

  • Obtain and maintain a current paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)

  • Obtain and maintain a valid National Disability Insurance Scheme Workers Check (NDISWC)

  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment police check 

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification
